Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

  • We do not accept insurance at this time. Clients pursuing our services must pay out of pocket. However, for evaluations, we can provide you with an itemized list of services (i.e., a superbill) as an “out-of-network” provider for you to submit to your insurance company after an evaluation. Please note that many insurance companies will not reimburse for an evaluation. Click here to learn more about out-of-network reimbursement. We do not provide superbills for parent coaching.

  • For evaluations, we provide payment plans (usually 2-3 payment installments) on a limited and case-by-case basis. We give discounts for children under 7. We also have discounts for sibling evaluations and repeat evaluations.

  • We do not provide psychotherapy services, but plan on adding this service in the near future. Please click here to be added to a waitlist.

  • We do not prescribe medication, but an evaluation can assist with determining if your child is a possible candidate for medication.

  • We do not currently have a waitlist for our services.

Evaluation FAQs

  • An evaluation can range from $2300 to over $4000 depending on the referral question. Certain evaluations have a reduced fee for young children. Visit our fees page for additional information.

  • We evaluate individuals ages 5 to 21. We make some exceptions to this based on particular circumstances.ription

  • The testing is administered primarily by our psychometrist, who has specialized training in test administration and observing behavior. The clinician also conducts portions of the testing and is entirely responsible for its interpretation.

  • We administer a range of standardized tests intended to measure aspects of cognitive and emotional functioning. These tests are administered via paper-and-pencil, iPad, and on the computer. We also sometimes use Nesplora to test attention, executive functioning, and memory in a virtual reality setting, such as a virtual classroom environment.

  • Our neuropsychological evaluations can include academic testing for an additional fee.

  • Yes, we offer a targeted evaluation for referral questions related to autism. An evaluation for autism can also be added to a neuropsychological evaluation for an additional fee.

  • Yes, we are trained in the ADOS-2 and use it for autism evaluations when appropriate.

  • School evaluations or “psychoeducational evaluations” usually focus on skills needed for academic success including testing intelligence and academic skills. Although these evaluations are helpful in determining whether a child qualifies for special education, they do not diagnose disorders (e.g., ADHD, autism, etc.) and are not as comprehensive as a neuropsychological evaluation, which measures more cognitive abilities and goes into more depth assessing emotional, behavioral, and social functioning.

  • The testing session occurs in-person at our downtown Portland office. However, we offer intake and feedback appointments either in-person or over Zoom (HIPAA-compliant).

  • The report contains background information on your child, behavioral observations during testing, a results summary, clinical impressions including any diagnoses, and tailored and practical recommendations for how to support your child at home, school, and in the community.

  • We usually send a final copy of the report within a week of the feedback.

Parent Coaching FAQs

  • Each 50-minute session is $125.

  • We conduct parent coaching for parents with children ages 2 to 12.

  • We ask parents commit to a minimum 3 sessions to get the maximum benefit from coaching. Additional sessions can be scheduled as needed.

  • The first three parent coaching sessions are designed to build a strong foundation. In Session 1, we gather background information and set goals. Session 2 provides education on behavior and key strategies using the principles of ABA. In Session 3, we review behavior data you’ve collected and develop a customized plan tailored to your child’s needs.

  • Parents are welcome to continue with ongoing coaching sessions if they need additional support, strategy refinement, or help navigating new challenges over time.

  • These coaching sessions are primarily focused on helping parents address behaviors at home, where they have the most influence and opportunity for change. While some strategies may carry over to school settings, our focus is on equipping families with tools they can use in daily routines, transitions, and interactions at home.

  • We do not provide superbills for parent coaching sessions because the child is not the client and these sessions are not classified as therapeutic. Parent coaching is a consultative service focused on supporting caregivers, and as such, is not typically eligible for insurance reimbursement.
